A Note on the Local Minimum Problem in Wireless Sensor Networks

2013

The Local Minimum Problem occurs in geographic routing scenarios. In this paper two solutions to this problem for certain network topologies are proposed. By using the notion of virtual coordinates a theoretical and a practical constructions are presented. A distributed algorithm for the practical approach is proposed.

Participation in ICT Development Interventions: Who and How?

2016

The aim of participatory development (PD) in the context of using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for development (ICT4D) is to empower underprivileged communities and disadvantaged segments of the stakeholders. The literature on ICT4D is replete with empirical evidence showing that ICT interventions often fail since they are often externally initiated, with very limited involvement from the affected (Heeks, 2002). Clearly, the principles and concepts of PD are relevant to ICT4D. However, we should not consider PD a panacea but need to understand the caveats and processes by which PD happens. Questions to ask include: What are the various challenges in PD? Who are the relev…

Diffusion Models in Analysing Emerging Technology-based Services

2005

In this article we discuss the problems of utilizing innovation diffusion (or, adoption) models in developing scenarios for mobile commerce services in three European countries: Finland, Germany, and Greece. We are not to test the various diffusion models as such, but rather to utilise the fundamental ideas of the models in determining the prerequisites for, the status of, and the pace of diffusion of mobile services in these different market areas. The estimates would serve as a starting point and as a validity check for scenario development. The early experience at the research design phase show that the ‘mainstream’ diffusion approach is vulnerable to three factors specific to the adopti…

How can a learning network support organisational development?

2010

The purpose of this study is to examine the development processes within a network project, The Learning Network of Knowledge Management. The study focuses on the impact of the network on two participating companies. The following research questions were addressed: (a) how did participation in a learning network support professional development of individuals; (b) how did it advance clarifying the mission, collaboration and work roles of teams; (c) how did organisational practices and processes develop as a result of the network project? The data were collected with interviews. The findings showed that the starting points, processes and results differed in two organisations. Both companies …

Towards a network-based view of effective entrepreneurial ecosystems

2021

AbstractWe conceptualize entrepreneurial ecosystems as fundamentally reliant on networks and explore how and under what conditions inter-organizational networks lead an entrepreneurial ecosystem to form and evolve. It is widely accepted that entrepreneurial ecosystems possess a variety of symbiotic relationships. Research has focused considerable efforts in refining the structure and content of resources found within these networked relationships. However, merely focusing on actor-level characterizations dilutes the notion that social relationships change and are complex. There has been little conceptual treatment of the behavioral and governance factors that underpin how quality interactio…

Extending the international new venture phenomenon to digital platform providers : A longitudinal case study

2018

People increasingly interact with services enabled by digital platforms. This has been a consequence of the digitalization of artifacts, which has transmuted traditional businesses into digital forms. With the increasing digitalization and modularization of services, digital platforms have given many digital service providers possibilities to scale globally, and to rapidly transcend national borders by serving multi-sided markets. However, we still know very little about how digital platform providers actually internationalize their services, or how they make their platforms available for global markets. In this paper, we contribute to the increasing literature on digital-based INVs, examin…

In-depth structural analysis of lanthanoid coordination networks based on a flexible tripodal zwitterionic isonicotinate ligand

2019

Crystallizing metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been studied using a tripodal pyridinecarboxylic acid derivative ligand and selected lanthanoid salts. The zwitterionic ligand, 1,1′,1′′-((2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triyl)tris(methylene))tris(pyridin-1-ium-4-carboxylate) (TTTPC) introduced as a bromide salt, forms coordination networks in aqueous environments and under ambient conditions with neodymium bromide, trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf) or acetate (OAc). Seven structures are elucidated in detail using single crystal X-ray crystallography. TTTPC NdBr3, TTTPC NdBr2OTf, TTTPC NdBr(OTf)2 and TTTPC Nd(OTf)3 are porous 3D networks with similar ligand–metal and ligand–anion interactions, b…

Uncovering the hidden actors with the help of Latour: the ‘making’ of The Second Sex

2010

Fuzzifying topology induced by a strong fuzzy metric

2016

A construction of a fuzzifying topology induced by a strong fuzzy metric is presented. Properties of this fuzzifying topology, in particular, its convergence structure are studied. Our special interest is in the study of the relations between products of fuzzy metrics and the products of the induced fuzzifying topologies.

A construction of a fuzzy topology from a strong fuzzy metric

2016

<p>After the inception of the concept of a fuzzy metric by I. Kramosil and J. Michalek, and especially after its revision by A. George and G. Veeramani, the attention of many researches was attracted to the topology induced by a fuzzy metric. In most of the works devoted to this subject the resulting topology is an ordinary, that is a crisp one. Recently some researchers showed interest in the fuzzy-type topologies induced by fuzzy metrics. In particular, in the paper  (J.J. Mi\~{n}ana, A. \v{S}ostak, {\it Fuzzifying topology induced by a strong fuzzy metric}, Fuzzy Sets and Systems,  6938 DOI information: 10.1016/j.fss.2015.11.005.) a fuzzifying topology ${\mathcal T}:2^X \to [0,1]$ …
